For a while, it seemed like everyone was too busy looking ahead to the fall TV season to cancel any of our favorite shows, but our good luck has run out: Somebody Somewhere, one of TV's best shows, is ending with its upcoming third season on HBO. In addition, the Star Wars series The Acolyte has been canceled after one season at Disney+. Dead Boy Detectives, the charming supernatural drama about two ghost best friends, has been canceled after one season at Netflix. And My Lady Jane, the historical drama with a romantic hero who could turn into a horse, saw the same fate at Prime Video. Nobody wants to have any fun anymore.
Still, after a busy June and July, August has been relatively quiet so far, and it's been heavier on renewals than it has been on cancellations. Peacock has renewed two of its popular reality competition series, The Traitors and Love Island Games, while Netflix said yes to second seasons of its action-packed shows The Gentlemen and Supacell. Apple TV+ has greenlit a second season of the multiverse drama Dark Matter, a second season of thriller Criminal Record, and season numero cuatro for Acapulco. Elsewhere, MTV has renewed RuPaul's Drag Race, Hulu has renewed Vanderpump Villa, and HBO has renewed City of God: The Fight Rages On.
Whether you're looking to celebrate more of your favorites or mourn the loss of something on your regular rotation, we're keeping tabs on all the shows that have been canceled or renewed in August below.
